I am excited to share with you a little bit about what has been happening since November of 2008! Eugene Dunkley, a man with a heart for missions and Professor of Biology, decided to sponsor a trip to Guatemala with Students International. The trip is geared towards medically minded students within the Biology Department here at the college. Starting in November, the team has been meeting every week for pre-field training, gaining knowledge about the country of Guatemala and its history, learning about God’s passionate heart for the poor and team bonding!
While in Guatemala, our team will be serving in the following areas: medical and veterinary clinics, doing physical therapy with children who suffer from cerebral palsy, and helping nurses take care of children who will be having surgery for cleft palates. The needs are great, so whatever Students International has for us, we will be serving with willing hearts. Our team will be staying with host families while in Guatemala. This is an awesome chance to really discover a new culture, get to know a family and try your luck at Spanish! Team members will be paired in two’s or three’s while at the homes.
